“Rocks In My Pockets” Directed by Signe Baumane

Boasting a narrative of extraordinary complexity and density, stuffed with irony, humor and tales-within-tales, the imaginative animated memoir “Rocks in My Pockets” merges a mini-history of 20th-century Latvia with that of helmer Signe Baumane and her forebears. Along the way, it provides a fascinating and very personal look at mental illness, as well as familial and societal dictates and dynamics. Following the film’s world preem in competition at Karlovy Vary, boutique arthouse distributor Zeitgeist will bow this modern milestone in animated storytelling in New York and Los Angeles in September. Nationwide play will follow.

Rocks in My Pockets was recently entered by Latvia into the 2015 Oscars as it’s selection in the Foreign Feature catagory

Written and Directed by Three Time EMMY Award Winning Director Mark Kirkland

100 years ago in a long forgotten silent film company, aspiring actress, Ellen, seeks her “lucky break” in a studio where everything goes wrong. Featuring: “Weird Al” Yankovic, Haskell Wexler, ASC and more…

Throughout the production we experimented with replica lenses and optical filters from the early era of cinema, I shot scenes along side the much respected Haskell Wexler A.S.C. during the “Fight Scene” as he captured the sequence with a Bell & Howell 2709. Setting up flats for our sets and relying mostly on available light, not to mention Weird Al Yankovic as Jesus in The Last Supper!

Director Mark Kirkland, cast and crew members will be in attendance
